Personalised feed, post ranking (OpenAI) and photo descriptions (Anthropic)

Three switches control how the Discover “For You” feed works for you. Personalised feed ranks For You from what you open, like, save and watch; it is on by default for adults and off by default for under-18s. Turning it off deletes your activity history and taste profile from SportNet’s servers, stops recording your activity, and For You shows recent and popular posts instead (the sport filter still works). Use my public posts for ranking (adults only) decides whether the caption, hashtags, your sport and account type of your PUBLIC posts — and for team posts the team’s name and sport — are sent to OpenAI to work out what each post is about, so it can be recommended to the right people. Describe my photos and videos (adults only, shown once the previous switch is on) decides whether each photo in a public post, or one still frame from each video, is sent on its own to Anthropic, which returns a short line about the sport, activity and setting shown (for example “Golf: a player mid-swing on a driving range”). Anthropic is told never to identify or describe a person or read text in the image, deletes the image within 30 days, and the line is added to the text OpenAI receives; the image itself never goes to OpenAI. A one-time notice with these switches appears before your first public photo or video post (people who answered the earlier text-only notice see a short photo notice next time); you can change any of them here. Nothing about who views the feed, no private or connections-only posts, messages, comments or bios are ever sent, and posts or photos by under-18s are never sent whatever the switches say. Neither provider uses your content to train its models, and each deletes what it receives within 30 days.
Good to know
- Turning off Use my public posts deletes the existing post summaries and photo descriptions on SportNet immediately and also switches off Describe my photos, but OpenAI may keep already-sent text for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. Your posts still appear in feeds as normal.
- Turning off Describe my photos deletes the descriptions SportNet holds and your posts are ranked from their text alone, but Anthropic may keep an already-sent image for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. Photos are only described after you say yes — nothing from before is used.
- All three choices are stored on your profile, so they apply on every device. Publishing a post never waits on the notice — choosing Not now simply shows it again next time.
- Text-only posts are never sent: only public posts with a photo or video are used for ranking.
